Stephen was one of Loyola's top baseball players. His versatility enabled him to play both centerfield and first base for the Greyhounds between 1973 and 1976. An all district selection in 1974, he also was a three time all Mason-Dixon Conference choice. In 1975 he was the Greyhound's most valuable player after hitting a team leading .394. He repeated as MVP a year later when he hit .329 and also won two games as a pitcher. Described by Coach Kevin Kavanaugh as a "franchise player", this Mt. St. Joseph High School graduate was the Greyhound team captain in 1975 and 1976.
