Jack Benzing was one of Loyola's finest all-around athletes. At the time of his induction he had won more varsity letters than any male athlete in Greyhound athletic history. Benzing excelled in soccer, baseball, and basketball, earning 11 letters between 1953-57. A first-team All-Mason-Dixon Conference selection each of his four years, Benzing was named second-team All-American following his senior season of 1956.

He also earned four letters in baseball. Benzing pitched and played the outfield, and was one of the most feared hitters in the Mason-Dixon Conference. He spent three years on the Greyhound basketball team, and was named to the All-Mason-Dixon Tournament team his senior year.

Benzing's tremendous accomplishments earned him the first John Mohler Trophy, presented to the most outstanding senior athlete.
