David Maynes, one of the finest midfielders to ever wear a Loyola lacrosse uniform, was a pioneering member of the Loyola lacrosse squad that first broke into Division I competition in 1982. A leader on and off the field, Maynes began his career at Loyola in 1979. His Greyhounds earned an 11-4 overall record that season. That, however, was only Maynes first taste of victory at Loyola, and his 17 points foreboded great success to come. Playing alongside current Hall of Fame member Gary Hanley, Maynes helped the Hounds to a 10-2 season in 1980, registering 26 points in only his second year. In 1981, Maynes tallied an inspiring 43 points, with 25 goals (second most on the team that year) and 18 assists, earning All-America accolades. His leadership and guidance led the Greyhounds to the NCAA Division II Championship Finals that year.

In 1982, the Towson, Md. native was a key figure in Loyola lacrosse's transition into Division I competition. With a significantly tougher schedule, Maynes led Loyola lacrosse to six victories in 1982, with key victories over Pennsylvania, Notre Dame and Drexel. Maynes tallied 22 points his senior year, finishing his Loyola career with 71 goals, 37 assists, and 108 points.
