A Pioneer in women's athletics at Loyola, Burke was one of the school's first three-sport female athletes. She was a major contributor to the Greyhounds' basketball, volleyball, and tennis teams. She captained the women's basketball team for three seasons, and was known for her long-range shooting accuracy and consistency. Burke was the leading scorer on Loyola's first women's basketball team, averaging 13.6oints for the 1971-72 Greyhounds. During her senior year of 1974-75, Burke averaged 11.3 points and helped the Greyhounds to their first winning record at 11-6. Her perfect 11-for-11 effort from the foul line in a 1972 game against Coppin State put Burke in the Loyola record book for best single-game free-throw performance. She earned the Lagna Award as Loyola's outstanding female student-athlete in her senior year.
