Maloney Named To Academic All-Patriot League Team
Nov. 20, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland junior middle blocker Mindy Maloney was one of seven student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference office announced today.
Maloney is joined by American University's Kristyna Lindovska and Monika Smidnova, Colgate University's Diane Seely, Bucknell University's Jessica Serrato, Lehigh University's Jade Van Streepen and the U.S. Naval Academy's Erin Fortner. Smidnova was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Maloney, who sports a 3.64 grade point average as an elementary education major, had a great third season for the Greyhounds. She averaged 1.63 kills per set and was one of three players in the conference to average more than a block per set in conference action (1.02).
The native of Homer Glen, Ill., led the Patriot League in hitting percentage (.383) in conference matches, and she hit .316 cumulatively this season.
She had the best single-game performance, hitting percentage-wise, in the Patriot League this season when she posted 13 kills and a .812 mark on October 16 against Navy. The 13 kills matched her previous career-high, and she was just off the school single-match hitting percentage record of .857, set in 1992 by Kim Colavito.
