Fedota Earns Patriot League Rookie of The Week Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After a week in which she continued her solid play during conference play, Loyola University Maryland freshman Mackenzie Fedota was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Fedota hit .359 with 18 kills and had nine total blocks in a pair of four-set matches against Lehigh University and Bucknell University.
In six Patriot League matches, Fedota leads Loyola in hitting percentage (.313) while averaging 1.87 kills per set. She also leads the team with 20 total blocks, an average of 0.87 per set.
She has raised her per-set kills average by more than 50 percent; Fedota ended non-conference action with 1.31 kills per set. She also is hitting at a much higher percentage after swinging at a .221 clip in 39 non-conference sets.
On Saturday evening against the Mountain Hawks, Fedota hit .571 and tallied eight kills to go with a career-best six total blocks. She followed that outing with 10 kills and a pair of service aces against Bucknell.
Just one week prior, Fedota helped the Greyhounds to their first two-match sweep on the road since 2013 by putting away seven kills at the U.S. Military Academy and a career-best 14 at Colgate Unviersity.
Monday’s award is the first of Fedota’s career and the second this season by a Loyola freshman. Ashley Kozer earned the nod on September 18.
The Greyhounds continue Patriot League action on Tuesday, October 10, when they travel to Lafayette College for a 7 p.m. match.
