Kozer Named Patriot League Rookie Of The Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland freshman Ashley Kozer was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after playing all six rotations for the first time as a collegian.
Kozer, who had set three rotations in the Greyhounds first three weeks of the season, moved into a different role this week as Loyola went 2-2 in four contests. She set the back row and then moved to the right-side as a hitter while in the front row rotations.
The native of Norton, Ohio, finished with 17 kills (1.13 per set), 88 assists (5.87) and 34 digs (2.27).
In the first match of the week, a three-set win over Coppin State, Kozer posted three kills and 18 assists. She then tallied a career-high seven kills while hitting .500 to go with 23 assists in a four-set victory over Hampton at the George Mason Classic.
In the weekend’s finale, against George Mason, Kozer tallied career-bests of 34 assists and 18 digs while also putting away five kills.
This season, Kozer has played in all 50 sets while posting 226 assists and 83 digs. Seventeen of her 20 career kills came in the past week.
Loyola opens Patriot League action on Friday, September 22, when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face American University at 7 p.m.
