Cross-Town Action

  • Loyola University Maryland volleyball will make the short trip across the Baltimore area to UMBC for the 2013 Maddie Bingham Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14, in the Retriever Athletic Center.
  • The Greyhounds will take on Howard University at 10 a.m. on Friday before playing Coppin State University at 2:30 p.m. Loyola will finish play in the tournament on Saturday at 12 noon when it faces NJIT.

Radisson Recap

  • Loyola hosted the second-annual Radisson Cross Keys Greyhound Challenge last weekend in Reitz Arena and finished third behind champion University of Delaware and second-place UMBC.
  • The Greyhounds opened with a three-set sweep of La Salle University on Friday night before falling in a tight five-set match to UMBC. The Blue Hens then swept Loyola to take the title.
  • Jac Bullock earned All-Tournament honors for the Greyhounds, hitting a combined .355 with 37 kills in the three matches. Bullock was also named to the Patriot League Weekly Honor Roll following her performance.

Bullock Hitting At Higher Clip

  • Loyola’s leading percentage hitter from a year ago, Jac Bullock (.337 in 2012), hit just .151 in the Greyhounds’ first weekend of action at the Appalachian State Invitational. with 27 kills, but 16 errors, on 73 swings.
  • In the second weekend, she had her hitting percentage back up to .355, putting away 37 kills on 76 attempts with just 10 errors.

First Weekend Of Action

  • The Greyhounds went 1-2 in their opening weekend of the 2013 season at the Appalachian State Invitational. They lost in three on Friday to the host Mountaineers before beating Norfolk State in five on Saturday morning. Loyola then battled back to force a fourth set against Sam Houston State, but the Bearkats finished the match in that frame.
  • Jac Bullock led Loyola with 25 kills, and Mindy Maloney hit a team-high .288.

Inaugural Patriot League Season

  • Loyola joined the Patriot League as a full member on July 1, 2013, an the 2013-2014 academic year will be the Greyhounds’ first in the conference.
  • In volleyball, the Greyhounds will compete eight other Patriot League teams (fellow new member Boston University does not sponsor the sport).
  • Loyola was picked to finish sixth in the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Poll. American University, which won 10 League titles from 2001-2011, was picked first, followed by the U.S. Military Academy and 2012 champion Colgate University in second and third. Lehigh University and the U.S. Naval Academy rounded out the top five, followed by Loyola, Bucknell University, College of the Holy Cross and Lafayette College.

Volleyball Beats Non-Conference Opponent Howard, 3-0
Annie Manes, Katie Dircks and Nicole Sarby and the Greyhounds defeated Howard University, 3-0, tonight at Reitz Arena. Loyola will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, against Siena and Marist. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.

Volleyball Matches 2011 Win Total With Sweep Of Coppin State
Faye Lukas posted 20 kills in just three sets, and the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team defeated Coppin State University, 26-24, 27-25, 25-18, to match the team's 2011 win total in just 12 matches this season.

Volleyball Takes Exciting Fifth Set, Defeats NJIT
Sophomore outside hitter Nina Camaioni posted season-highs of 17 kills and 32 digs to lead the Greyhounds from a come-from-behind victory over NJIT in five sets. The Greyhounds trailed two-sets-to-one before rallying for the win.
