Head coach Scott Pennewill said he was happy with his team's selections, as each player brings something different to the table.
"They each have their own thing," Pennewill said. "Brittany has a real high enthusiasm level; Kristen is very caring and always looking out for the ecology of the team; Scimeme is just going to be hey follow me, this is where we're going. They each have a strength."
Pennewill is relying on the group to provide leadership to team that is 50 percent new. Six incoming freshmen join the `Hounds this season, which is a stark contrast from the 2008 team that was devoid of new faces.
"We'll probably be starting four freshmen," Pennewill said. "It's going to be interesting, it's going to be a wild year."
Muscarella (Garden City, N.Y.) has been a setter and defensive specialist for the Greyhounds in during her time at Loyola. As a setter last season, Muscarella amassed 847 assists while chipping in 229 digs.
Scimeme (Stony Brook, N.Y.) developed into a starting outside hitter last season, tallying a career-high 130 kills and 178 digs.
Born (Ellicot City, Md.) has been the Greyhounds' primary libero for the past two seasons. Born has led the team in digs in both of her seasons at Loyola and her 626 digs in 2007 ranked in the top 60 in the nation.
"They're a close group so they will work together," Pennewill said. "The cooperation will be good."
