Loyola Volleyball Announces 2014 Schedule
July 7, 2014
BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland volleyball will host the third-annual Greyhound Challenge in early September as part of a 12-match home schedule during the 2014 season, Head Coach Jake Lawrence announced.
All dates are subject to change, and fans can visit LoyolaGreyhounds.com for the most up-to-date information on matches.
"I'm excited for our 2014 schedule. I think we have a great mix of opponents, including a tough matchup against our first SEC opponent since 2006," Lawrence said. "The Patriot League had three teams in the top 100 of the RPI last year, and American made the Round of 16. We're growing as a league, and with a very young squad this year, our schedule needs to be good preparation. We are fired up about hosting our third-annual Greyhound Challenge, and we look forward to welcoming Dartmouth, Quinnipiac, and Saint Francis to Reitz Arena."
After opening its season at the La Salle Invitational Aug. 29-30 against teams from Coppin State University, NJIT and the host Explorers, Loyola will take on Quinnipiac University, Dartmouth College and St. Francis (Pennsylvania) University when it welcomes those teams to Reitz Arena Sept. 5-6 for the Greyhound Challenge.
Howard University is one of two non-tournament non-conference matches the Greyhounds will play in 2014. Loyola hosts the Bison Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Loyola then journeys to the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area for the Costal Carolina Tournament Sept. 12-13, where it will face the host Chanticleers, Kennesaw State University and the University of Tennessee.
The Greyhounds play in their final regular-season tournament of the year, Sept. 19-20, at St. Francis. The Red Flash Classic will feature Loyola, the host school, George Mason University and Morgan State University.
Patriot League play commences on Sept. 25 when the Greyhounds host Lehigh University, followed by a Sept. 28 date with Lafayette College. Loyola will make its first conference road trip of the season the next weekend to play at College of the Holy Cross and the U.S. Military Academy, Oct. 3-4, respectively.
Last year's Patriot League Champion and NCAA Round of 16 participant American University visits Reitz Arena Oct. 8 to start a three-match homestand that continues Oct. 11-12 with contests against Bucknell University and Colgate University.
The Greyhounds will take on the U.S. Naval Academy in back-to-back contests six days apart. Loyola first travels to Annapolis, Maryland, for a Oct. 18 match before the Midshipmen come to the Evergreen campus Oct. 24.
A day later, Oct. 25, the Greyhounds trek down Interstate-95 to Washington, D.C., to face American, and they then visit the Lehigh Valley Oct. 31-Nov. 1 for matches at Lehigh and Lafayette.
Loyola's regular-season home schedule concludes Nov. 7-8 with matches against Army and Holy Cross, and it then wraps up its final two road matches at Bucknell and Colgate, Nov. 14-15.
The Patriot League Championships will take place at the site of the conference's regular-season champion. Semifinal action is set for Nov. 22 with the title match and NCAA automatic bid on the line Nov. 23.
