BALTIMORE - Katie Zulandt has been named an assistant volleyball coach at Loyola University Maryland, the program's head coach, Jake Lawrence, announced today.

"We are thrilled to have Katie on staff here at Loyola," Lawrence said. "She has all the makings of a talented coach. Her personality on and off the court will be something our players, and recruits, will love and want to play for. Katie's background as a successful collegiate and professional athlete will be valuable to our program, and I'm sure she's going to set a great example. I couldn't be happier to have her here."

Zulandt was a four-year letterwinner at George Washington University where she earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors as a senior in 2010 when she was named the Colonials' Most Valuable and Most Outstanding Offensive Player.

"I feel incredibly blessed, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach alongside Coach Lawrence at Loyola," Zulandt said. "I look forward to helping the Greyhounds make an outstanding debut in the Patriot League this fall."

Last year, Zulandt spent the season as a starting middle blocker on for Pallo-Karhut in SM-Liga, the women's professional volleyball league in Finland. Zulandt helped the team, which is based in Kuusamo, to a 21-3 record and first place in its division.

Prior to her professional playing experience, Zulandt was the head girls' volleyball coach at the National Cathedral School for Girls in Washington, D.C. She has also served as the assistant camp director and coach at the George Washington's Nike Volleyball Camp.

She graduated from George Washington in 2011 with a bachelor of arts in geography.
