Bucknell Rallies To Top Volleyball
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ann Ernst and Haley Puddy each finished with 17 kills, but Bucknell University rallied from a second-set loss to defeat Loyola University Maryland in four, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, on Saturday evening in Patriot League play.
Puddy’s penultimate kill of the night put Loyola in front, 20-15, in the third set, but Luz Nagle sided out for the Bison to score the first of six-straight points. Blake Buchholz put away a kills at the end of the run that gave Bucknell a 21-20 lead.
Puddy responded with her 17th kill of the game, tying the score at 21-21, but two points in a row for Bucknell pushed the Bison up two, 23-21.
Mackenzie Fedota had a sideout kill for Loyola to draw the Greyhounds within a point, but Hailey Stout’s kill gave Bucknell match-point at 24-22.
Ernst stretched play for a point with a kill, but Stefanie Alpert came back for Bucknell to put away a kill, ending the set and the match.
Puddy’s 17 kills matched her career-best, tying the mark she set on September 12, 2015, in a five-set match against Maryland Eastern Shore. Ashley Kozer set a career-high with 45 assists, and she matched Erin Cunningham for team-high honors with 16 digs. Molly Jarvis led Loyola with five blocks.
The Greyhounds close out their home schedule on Tuesday, November 7, when they host Lafayette College in a 7 p.m. match.
