Bullock Logs 1,000th Career Kill; Leopards Top Volleyball

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland senior middle blocker Jac Bullock recorded her 1,000th career kill early in the second set Friday night, but Lafayette College rallied from an early deficit to beat the Greyhounds, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21, in Patriot League action.
Bullock posted six kills in the first set as Loyola (5-18 overall, 2-9 Patriot League) came back from a 21-18 deficit to win the frame by scoring the final four points.
Lafayette (10-13, 2-10) went ahead three, 6-3, in the second, but Loyola pulled even on Bullock's landmark kill, evening the set at 7-7.
The product of Aubrey, Texas, finished with 13 kills and reached the 1,000 plateau by averaging 3.13 kills per set over the last two seasons.
The Leopards, however, scored the next four points to take control of the second set, evening the match at 1-1.
Lafayette then went on to score the first five points of the third set before Loyoal rallied to tie at 9-9 on a Faye Lukas kill. The Greyhounds took a two-point lead, 15-13, when Bullock put away an overpass for a kill, but Lafayette scored seven of the next eight points to lead 20-16.
Loyola looked to push the match to a fifth set, going up by two early in the fourth, but 13 of the next 17 points went the way of the Leopards before the built an 18-11 advantage en route to the match victory.
Bullock led all players with 14 kills, while hitting .314, and Faye Lukas had 11 kills for the Greyhounds.
Jet Manzi posted a team-best 12 kills for Lafayette, while Brianne Giangiobbe and Karissa Ciliento added 11 and 10, respectively.
Both teams' liberos - Loyola's Kara Schiffer and Lafayette's Lauren Pisauro - had 26 digs each. Schiffer's were the most digs by a Loyola player this season.
The Greyhounds wrap up their weekend of action on Saturday afternoon when they host Lehigh University at 4 o'clock in Reitz Arena.
