Arnold Hits .700 But Iona Tops Volleyball
Oct. 30, 2011
BALTIMORE - Lauren Arnold hit a season-high .700 for Loyola University Maryland, but Iona College defeated the Greyhounds in three, 25-18, 25-18, 26-24, on Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Reitz Arena.
Arnold had seven kills on just 10 swings, without an error to register the Greyhounds' best individual hitting percentage with 10 or more attempts this season.
Loyola rallied from three down in the third set to tie the match four times, starting at 17-17.
The Greyhounds knotted it at 22-22 when Mindy Maloney put up a solo block on a Catrina Warren swing, but Madisyn Spence registered one of her match-high 13 kills for the Gaels on the next point.
Loyola scored on a sideout, however, when Taylor Cembalisty had a service error. Tied at 23-23, Spence put away another kill before Iona was felled by another service error, this by Katie Marabella to tie the set at 24-24.
Alicja Pawelec put away kills for the Gaels on the next two points to close out the match.
Loyola returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts Saint Peter's College in a MAAC match at 7 o'clock in Reitz Arena.
