Canisius Deals Volleyball Three-Set Setback
Oct. 16, 2011
BUFFALO - Jac Bullock had eight kills and four blocks for Loyola University Maryland, but Canisius College defeated the visiting Greyhounds, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action on Sunday afternoon.
Bullock hit a match-high .400, needing just 15 swings for her eight kills.
Canisius, however, hit .235 as a team, led by Danielle Brawn who had 14 kills. She also added four service aces and nine digs.
The teams opened with balanced scoring in the first set, trading leads five times and playing through eight tie scores.
The Golden Griffins (9-11 overall, 4-5 MAAC) were down a point after two Elena Frac aces for Loyola before Brawn had a kill to tie the score at 10-10. That started a 4-0 run that the Golden Griffins extended to 10-4, as they took control of the set.
Loyola (6-16, 3-6) led throughout much of the third set, going ahead 11-8 on a Mindy Maloney block of Janelle Davis.
The Greyhounds were ahead by two, 15-13, after a bad set by Canisius' Joanna Burt, but the Golden Griffins rallied to tie the score at 16-16 on an Olivia Chrzanowski kill.
Canisius went up two, 19-17, when Jessica Warner put away a kill, but Loyola tied the score at 19-19 on a Faye Lukas kill. The Golden Griffins scored two in a row after that, however, and never trailed again as they closed out the match in three.
Loyola returns to Reitz Arena for the first time this month with a Wednesday night contest at 7 o'clock against Manhattan.
