POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Jac Bullock hit .618, with 22 kills with just one error, and Loyola University Maryland outlasted host Marist College in five sets, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-12, on Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action.

Bullock's 22 kills were a career-best and came on just 34 swings. Her .618 hitting percentage was also a career-high in matches that she had a minimum of 12 kills. Her previous bests were 21 kills - also against Marist in September 2011 - and .528 earlier this year against Providence College.

Her hitting percentage is also the highest by a player in the MAAC this season, as of this weekend's matches.

Loyola's offense clicked in the deciding fifth set, as the Greyhounds (11-10 overall, 3-6 MAAC) had 11 kills without an error. Defensively, they had three blocks against the Red Foxes (7-13, 3-7) in the set.

The Greyhounds went up early in the fifth set after Lauren Andersen had a dump for a kill, and Bullock teamed with Faye Lukas for a block. A Marist attack error made it 3-0, and Lukas had back-to-back kills to put the Greyhounds advantage at 5-0.

Marist got within three on three occasions before the Greyhounds stretched the lead back to five, 12-7, on a Mindy Maloney-Lukas block. The Red Foxes, however, again cut their disadvantage to three at 12-9 and 13-10.

A Bullock kill made it match-point, 14-10, but Marist had back-to-back kills from Mackenzie Stephens and Hanna Stoiberg to draw within a pair of points, 14-12.

Loyola called a timeout, and Bullock put away her sixth kill of the fifth set, in just her eighth attempt, to seal the match.

In addition to her 22 kills, Bullock had four service aces, six digs and three total blocks.

Lukas added 17 kills, and Maloney had five kills and five blocks. Kara Schiffer led the team with 15 digs, and Janet Pressler added 13, while Katie Dircks and Andersen each had 10. Pressler also had three aces.

Three Marist players had 10 or more kills, led by Stephens' 12.

Loyola wraps up its current three-match weekend trip on Monday evening when it takes on Saint Peter's University at 5 o'clock in Jersey City, N.J.
