HAMILTOn, N.Y. - Loyola University Maryland had a season-high 12 total blocks, and the Greyhounds eased to a nine-point win in the second set at Colgate University Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action, but the Red Raiders fended off the Greyhounds for a 25-21, 14-25, 25-22, 25-11 victory.

Colgate (12-6 overall, 5-1 Patriot League), which represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament last season, was felled by errors in the second set, committing nine hitting miscues while only putting away six kills.

The Red Raiders also had five receiving errors and a service error in the frame, in which Loyola scored the final six points to even the match at 1-1.

Colgate reversed the momentum early in the third game, going up by six on two occasions, the second time at 10-4 on a Jackie May ace.

Loyola (5-14, 2-5), however, scored three in a row on a Nicole Sarby kill and two by Faye Lukas, and after a Colgate sideout, a Jane Lukas kill and an ace by older sister, Faye, made it 11-9 Colgate.

The Greyhounds pulled within a point twice, the first time on a block by Jac Bullock and Jane Lukas and the second on a Bullock kill, but each time Colgate responded with a sideout point.

Bullock again had a kill to make it a one-point different, 14-13, and Colgate's Diane Seely hit wide, tying the set at 14-14.

Loyola, however, committed one of its 10 service errors, and Colgate went on a 5-0 run to lead 19-14 before Loyola sided out on a Sarby-Bullock block.

For the second match in a row, Jac Bullock was credited with seven total blocks, matching her season-high. Loyola's 12 blocks were two more than its previous best this season in a match.

Faye Lukas led Loyola with 10 kills, while Jane Lukas and Bullock each had nine. Jane Lukas also had three aces, and Kelly McShea added a pair. Kara Schiffer posted 16 digs.

Seely had a match-high 11 kills for the Red Raiders.

The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena for its sole match next week, a Wednesday, October 16, game against the U.S. Naval Academy at 7 p.m.
