Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team lost in its conference home opener to Fairfield University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21). The Greyhounds will be back in action tomorrow at home as they face Iona at 2 p.m.

"We are not playing to our potential," Head Coach Scott Pennewill said. "We set the tone of this match with our serving and our passing which then affects the rest of what we are trying to accomplish. As those two things got better, you then saw players really start to shine. That is what the game plan was from the beginning. For us it really started in set three. That is a little late to get started. We need to be better at home right out of the gate."

Senior Nina Camaioni had 10 kills for the match and seven digs. Freshman Jac Bullock had eight kills for the match with a .429 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Aubrey Kirven had 27 assists for the match and sophomore Katie Dircks had seven kills and eight digs. As a team, the Greyhounds had five blocks and seven serving errors.

Lauren Hughes led the way for Fairfield with 14 kills with a .464 hitting percentage. Rachel Romansky had 28 assists for the match.

In the first set, the Stags had an early 11-4 lead and never looked back. A couple of times the Greyhounds pulled within five, but that would be it. Loyola came within 23-18, but the Stags closed out the set, 25-18. The Greyhounds had a hitting percentage .172 to Fairfield's .229.

In the second set, Loyola and the Stags battled back and forth to a tied score at nine. Then Fairfield took the lead and never looked back. Loyola came within two, but Fairfield had an answer and won the set, 25-20. The Greyhounds hit a .118 percent for the set to the Stags' .364.

In the third set, the Greyhounds took the lead at 13-13, but again the Stags had an answer. The set was tied at 19-19 before Fairfield went on a five-point run.  The Greyhounds broke the string, but that wasn't enough to finish the set and Loyola lost, 25-21. The Greyhounds had a .161 hitting percent to the Stags .282.
