Volleyball Falls to Louisville & Virginia

Louisville, Ky. - The Loyola College volleyball team fell to 0-3 on the season after falling to Louisville and Virginia at the Cardinal's Courtyard Marriot Tournament Saturday. The Greyhounds fell to both squads in three games. Louisville improved to 2-0 with the victory and the Cavilers improved to 2-1.
In their first outing of the day, the Greyhounds hung with the No. 22 Cardinals. Loyola stuck with the nationally ranked squad throughout the entire game. At the close of the game, Louisville held a 28-20 lead but the Greyhounds would not give up, winning five straight points before Louisville was able to close the game, 30-25.
Loyola fought back from as a much as a 10 point deficit early in the third game, putting together several three point scoring runs to chip away at Louisville's lead but ultimately fell 30-20.
The Cardinal's were able to finish the match strong with a 30-14 score.
The Greyhounds were led by Becky Corb with 10 kills. Jamie Ardnt and freshman Christina Greenup added six. Freshman Katie Sindelar tallied six digs in her first collegiate appearance as the libero.
For Louisville, 6-3 freshman Svetlana finished with 12 kills.
The Greyhounds finished the tournament with a solid match against Virginia with scores of 30-18, 30-21 and 30-24. Corb led again with 10 kills and was followed by Greenup with nine and two block assists. The Greyhounds were solid on defense with three players registering double figures in digs and tallying three total team blocks. Sindelar led with 14, followed by Arndt with 11 and Corb with 10.
Setter Krystal Biegaj tallied a weekend high 30 assists in both matches.
The 0-3 Greyhounds open their home season on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00 by facing LaSalle.
