Final Stats

PITTSBURGH - Loyola University Maryland rallied from a five-point, third-set deficit to win the game and force a fourth set, but Duquesne University closed out the match for a 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, victory over the Greyhounds Saturday afternoon at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational.

After the Dukes (6-1 overall) won the first two sets, they went up by five on three occasions in the first 11 points of the third set. Two Faye Lukas kills, and one each by Jac Bullock and Lauren Arnold, however, pulled the Greyhounds (4-3) even, 8-8, when combined with a pair of Duquesne attack miscues.

The Dukes were able to sideout to stem Loyola's 4-0 run, but Mindy Maloney put up a solo block to tie the set again at 9-9. Maloney and Lukas each had kills to give Loyola its first multi-point lead of the match.

The set remained tight, with neither team leading by more than two points until back-to-back Nicole Sarby kills for Loyola gave the Greyhounds a 22-18 advantage. Lukas pushed the lead to five with a kill, but the Dukes crept back within three before Loyola closed the set and forced a fourth.

Other than two one-point leads in the first five points, Loyola trailed the entire fourth set.

Bullock and Lukas combined for 31 kills after recording 38 in Friday night's finale against Providence. Bullock had 16, while Lukas posted 15. Lukas had her first career double-double, notching 11 digs.

Maloney had three solo blocks and seven kills, while Kara Schiffer set a career-best with 21 digs and three aces. Lauren Andersen had 44 assists and Lauren Arnold added 10 digs.

The Greyhounds close their run at the tournament later today with a 3 o'clock match against Bucknell.
