Loyola University Maryland Head Volleyball Coach Scott Pennewill announced the hire of Ashley Preston as assistant coach.

"We're happy to welcome Ashley onboard," said Pennewill. "We're familiar with her as an opponent and feel that her experience as an assistant coach on the college level will help us get off to a good start."

Preston comes to Loyola with a strong background in both the sport and the area after two years as an assistant coach at Morgan State University, where she also spent four record-breaking years playing for the Bears as a libero and outside hitter.

"I'm excited to be working with a new program and plan on learning as much as I can at Loyola," Preston said. "I came here because I wanted to be able to grow as a professional volleyball coach."

Preston left Morgan State as the school's all-time digs leader with 2,066, eclipsing the previous record by 612 digs after leading the team in that category for all four years. She also broke the school's single-season digs record twice, setting the marks with 525 digs her freshman year and 640 as a sophomore.

Preston also excelled in the classroom, earning three MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Awards and an Arthur Ashe Scholars first team honor en route to a MEAC Woman of the Year Award nomination in 2008. Preston earned the Elijah Rowe Award in 2006-2007, which goes to the female athlete with the highest grade point average at Morgan State.

A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Preston also spent several summers working as a volleyball camp instructor at Durango High School in Las Vegas.

Preston graduated from Morgan State in 2008 with a bachelor of science in communication with a concentration in public relations. She is currently pursuing a master of arts in publications design at the University of Baltimore.
