The Loyola Women's Track & Field team will venture to the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York on Friday, February 15 for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
With 36 on the roster, 17 of which competed in the championships last year, the Greyhounds look to top individual records and improve on their fifth place finish from last year.
In sprints, Jeanine Gill and Eileen Pastyrnak take on the 60m and 200m for Loyola. Gill holds a season-best time of 8.21 in the 60m and a 26.4 in the 200m, while Pastyrnak ran an 8.21 in the 60m and a 27.57 in the 200m. Competing alongside the two is Courtney Willeford in the 60m and Rebekah Rogerson, Eilis McGovern and Lauren Puleo in the 200m. McGovern takes on the 60m hurdles for the Greyhounds with a 10.25 season-best.
Taking on the 400m and teaming up for the 4 x 400m are Jacqueline Porter, Marissa Buccellato, Brianna Nelson, and Megan Trainer with a season-best time in the medley of 4:06.9. Joining them in the 400m is Margaret Larkin sporting a 1:05.3 season-best.
In the individual distance runs, Kiera Harrison will compete in the 3000m and 5000m with season-bests of 10:37.8 and 17.53.0 respectively. Emily Rooney will be competing with Harrison in both races as well. Also competing in the 3000m is Anna Bosse and Erica Canas, and in the 5000m is Mary DeGregorio.
On the field side of the MAAC Championships, eight athletes will represent the Greyhounds, five in which are in multiple events.
After recording program bests three times in her rookie season, Uchechukwu Emili looks to lead the Greyhounds in the shot put and weight throw, while teammate Alessandra Piscitelli will also compete in the two events.
In honor of American Heart Month, the Greyhounds will be sporting red bows Friday evening, as well as all other championship meets.
“We are wearing the bows to bring awareness to heart disease,” head coach Amy Horst said. “Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and we like to engrain in our athletes that it can be prevented with a healthy diet and exercise, something that is important in our sport.”
The team can be seen wearing their ribbons live on MAAC.TV.com. For the first time in conference history the championships will be streaming live on the conference website. Events are set to begin Friday at 6 p.m.
