Four School Records Set In Final Day Of Track Outdoor Championships
May 5, 2013
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland women's track and field team set four school records, while finishing fifth at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Rider University.
The Greyhounds totaled 74 points, the most points of any Loyola team in past championship history.
"I'm quite happy with the performance of the team," said head coach Amy Horst. "It was huge to have so many people score points that haven't this season. The team score shows growth, as a team and individually."
Seniors Jackie D'Antonio and Kiera Harrison totaled the most individual points, combining for 16 team points. D'Antonio finished second in the 800m, with a new school record of 2:14.9. Horst said the senior mid-distance runner ran a "phenomenal race". Harrison also finished second, running the 5,000m in 17:35.58.
"Kiera ran the race she needed to run, and I knew she could do," Horst said.
Both Greyhound relays put up six points for the team, finishing third among five conference teams. Rebekah Rogerson, Eileen Pastyrnak, Megan Trainer, and Jeanine Gill ran the 4x100 in 49.86, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of the Marist team.
Trainer also helped lead, Marissa Buccellato, D'Antonio, and Jacqueline Porter, to a second place finish in the 4x400. The quad recorded a program record of 3:59.96, adding six points to the Greyhound effort in a season-best time.
"We flat out ran our hardest on the track to win All-MAAC," Horst said. "I'm happy this group of women finally got the program to beat four minutes."
Hurdler Jacqueline Porter set a program record for the fourth time this season, finishing fourth and contributing five points to the team effort with the time of 1:03.28, in the 400m hurdles. "Jackie continues to be consistent and improve on every meet she competes," said Horst.
Fellow hurdle teammate, Eilis McGovern recorded a single point, with her eighth place finish in the 400m hurdles. Despite tired legs from last night's performance in the steeplechase, Anna Bosse also contributed points to the team effort, recording two points and a personal record of 18:07.79 in the 5,000m race. Field athletes, Alyssa Harrison, Noreen Petrash, and Maria Hacker also added a combined total of nine points, while Alessandra Piscitelli contributed the final point, and a PR of 32.85m in the discus.
Seven runners recorded personal bests including, Marissa Buccellato, Charlotte Criqui, Brianna Nelson, and Margaret Larkin in the 400m, while Criqui and Jeanine Gill set new records in the 200m and 100m, respectively. Distance runner, Mary DeGregorio recorded a new personal best in the 5,000m, with a time of 19:27.32.
Off the track, Emili beat her old program record in the shot put, throwing a new distance of 11.13m.
Triple jumper, Kelly Hilbert was the final Greyhound to record a PR, as she ended the season with a jump of 9.89m.
Anna Bosse, Marissa Buccellato, Jackie D'Antonio, Mary DeGregorio, Maria Hacker, Alyssa Harrison, Kiera Harrison, Margaret Larkin, Rachel Nerenberg, Ellis McGovern, Jessica Peters, Noreen Petrash, Jacqueline Porter, Lauren Puleo, Jenna Smith, Megan Trainer, and Courtney Willeford were among the Greyhounds to receive MAAC All-Academic Team honors.
Marist College led all schools with 18 academic honors, while Loyola came in second, before Rider, Saint Peters, Manhattan, and Iona College.
Next week, Kiera Harrison travels to the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J., to run the 10,000m race on Friday, May 10.
