April 29, 2005
Philadelphia, Pa. - Loyola's Jackie Truncellito ran a personal season-best 10,000-meter time of 37:14.98 to qualify for the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships while teammate Andrea Rovegno finished seventh in the collegiate women's 3,000-meter race at the Penn Relays on Thursday night at Franklin Field.
Truncellito, a senior from suburban Philadelphia, smashed her previous best 10,000-meter time by 45 seconds and qualified for her first ECAC Championship in this homecoming race. She finished 28th overall.
Rovegno set a 3,000-meter personal best with her time of 9:52.21 to take seventh out of 22 in one of the most competitive collegiate fields of the season. The sophomore outran her previous personal best by 22 seconds and set a new 3,000-meter Loyola record.
Loyola returns to action on Saturday when Shannon Gillespie will be competing in the Penn Relays' 5,000-meter junior racewalk while the rest of the squad will be warming up for next week's MAAC Championships at the College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational.
