Track Runs Well At Morgan Legacy Meet
April 26, 2004
BALTIMORE, MD - Jackie Truncellito won the women's 5,000-meter race while Andrea Rovegno finished third to headline some solid performances by the Loyola women's track team at Saturday afternoon's Morgan State Legacy Track meet.
Truncellito took the gold medal in the 5K with her time of 18:18.57 and Rovegno captured the bronze with her time of 18:41.09 despite having to battle through extremely hot weather.
Loyola's Bridget Scanlan ran a 29.58-second 200-meter dash in her first go at that event this season, while Michelle McVann set a personal best by five seconds in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 5:13.10 to place sixth. McVann has set personal bests in each race she has run this year.
Carolyn Kennington set a personal best in the discus throw with her heave of 93'1.50" even with a broken wrist on her off-hand.
The distance medley relay team of Truncellito, Scanlan, Rovegno, and Grace Wetzel also ran well en route to a second place finish.
"I'm very happy with today's performance," said Loyola Head Coach Chris Bayless, who made the first return to his alma mater as a head coach after being an All-American distance runner at Morgan State in the late-1980's. "We will now rest for a couple of weeks after a long season and get prepared for the MAAC Championships."
