Multiple Personal Bests Set At Home Meet

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland track team set a number of personal records Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds co-hosted the Loyola-Hopkins Track & Field Invitational at the Loyola-Johns Hopkins Track & Field Complex.

Senior Sara Gilson posted Loyola's top individual finish of the afternoon, taking third and setting a new PR in the 3,000m steeplechase. The veteran distance runner ran in 11:55.90, shaving more than 10 seconds off her previous record.

Junior Sarah Askine took fourth in the highly competitive 1,500m race, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 4:43.09. Senior Erica Canas also set a PR in the 1,500m, clocking a time of 4:53.31 and taking 24th overall.

In the 100m hurdles, freshman Anne Lauder took eighth with a personal-best time of 16-seconds flat, while classmates Devon Terwilliger (fourth, 1:05.41) and Christa Sidoti (11th, 1:09.26) set PRs in the 400m hurdles.

Four Greyhounds set personal records in the 100m dash, including freshman Olivia Airhart (13th, 12.91), junior Claire Scavone (14th, 12.92) and sophomores Daniella Joyce (19th, 13.14) and Delia Oldak (33rd, 14.04).

Airhart and Oldak went on to also run a personal-best time in the 200m dash. Airhart crossed the finish line in 26.72, while Oldak came in at 28.89. Seniors Brianna Nelson and Rebekah Rogerson ran in their final home meet, setting personal records in 27.19 and 27.20, respectively.

Earlier in the afternoon, Nelson set a PR in the 400m, taking 16th in 1:01.55. Sophomore Emma Dunleavy (ninth, 59.93) and junior Isabela Ugarte (21st, 1:03.18) also set new personal records in the same event.

Mid-distance runners freshmen MaryEllen Woods (2:19.73) and freshman Gabrielle Silvestri (2:33.02), along with senior Emily Richards (2:53.41) also set PRs in the 800m run.

The 4x400m relay finished second, only behind co-host Johns Hopkins, with a time of 4:02.13; while the 4x100m relay took sixth in 50.52.

Off the track, freshman Anne Lauder bettered her program record in the triple jump, taking eighth and setting a mark of 10.51m.

The men's cross country team ran attached Saturday afternoon and were led by freshman Colin Chandler's 36th-place finish in the 5,000m. Chandler crossed the finish line in 16:49.11, while classmate Alex Buchholz came in right behind Chandler in 16:51.52.

Junior Brad Beard led the Greyhounds in the 1,500m, taking 53rd in 4:17.08, while Tyler Schoch (55th, 4:17.77), Zachary Nerenberg (73rd, 4:31.15), freshman Ryan O'Donnell (77th, 4:42.18), sophomore John Miller (78th, 4:42.83), junior Jonathan Mugavera (80th, 4:45.49) and sophomore Corey Lyden (82nd, 5:14.71) also competed in the event.

Sophomore Alex Saffadi took 38th in the 800m run, finishing 38th overall. Freshmen Leo Cantinella and Schoch came across the finish line in succession, with Cantinella taking 56th in 2:05.17 and Schoch 57th in 2:05.56.

The men closed out the day's events with the 4x400m relay. The Greyhounds took 16th with a time of 3:40.86.

Loyola's women's team returns to action next Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Maryland.
