A Number Of Personal Bests Broken In 2013 Outdoor Season Opener

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women’s track and field team had three top-three finishes at the Virginia Invitational, while Uchechukwu Emili broke a school record in the shot put at the Towson Invitational.
The Greyhounds came away from Charlottesville with a total of 18 points.
Junior Emily Rooney contributed six points to the effort at the Virginia Invitational, with a third-place finish in the 5,000m. Rooney crossed the finish line at 19:05.99.
Calli Pappas also added six points, coming in at 12:21.80 in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Kiera Harrison was the top mid-distance finisher, running the 1,500m in 4:46.26. Harrison placed twelfth out of 19 contenders in the event.
In the field events, senior Alyssa Harrison tabbed a personal best of 1.57m in the high jump, while Mascoli finished twelfth and ninth in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
Meanwhile at Towson, a number of personal records were broken, including Mary DeGregorio, who shaved five seconds off 1,500m record, with a finishing time of 5:09.84.
Junior Courtney Willeford turned in a personal best at 19:92, in the 100m hurdles. Teammate Jacqueline Porter ran in the 400m hurdle event, finishing with a personal best of 1:05.95. The new time qualified Porter for a first place finish in her heat, and third in the event.
In the field events, Emili broke the previous program record of 10.32m in the shot put. The freshman field participant recorded a distance of 10.86m. Emili also holds the program record in the indoor shot put, as well.
Willeford, who also ran in track events, recorded a new personal record of 4.69m in the long jump. Sophomore Kelly Hilbert also competed in the long jump, and was .01 off her personal-best, finishing 23rd with a distance of 4.53m.
In the final field event of the afternoon, Willeford broke her third personal record of the day, finishing second in the javelin throw. The junior multi-event athlete threw at a record of 37.09m.
Loyola continues the outdoor season at the Colonial Relays at William and Mary Thursday, April 4-6.
