Distance Medley Relay School Record Falls At ECAC Championships
March 6, 2011
BOSTON, Mass. - The Loyola University Maryland women's distance medley relay team broke the school record en route to a 16th place finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The entry of Jackie D'Antonio, Emily Doucette, Alyssa Doyle, Kristina Krupa finished the relay in 11:59.68, shattering the previous school record of 12:17.03 that the four set at the New Balance Invitational on April 4.
"We knew they were ready to go and they really well together," said Head Coach Amy Horst. "You need four strong performances and that's exactly what they did.
Prior to the New Balance Invitational, the previous record of 12:20.99 had stood for three years.
"I couldn't have asked for anything more from them," Horst said. "It's a nice setup for where we're going with the team and a good end to the indoor season."
The squad finished ahead of five teams at the Championships, including William & Mary, La Salle and UMass Amherst. Loyola finished less than a second behind Albany and Lehigh, as well.
"They were ready to pieces come together and know they can do it again and go faster," said Horst. "The biggest takeaway from today is that whatever is out there, they know can set their own expectations, go after it and do it."
Loyola's outdoor track and field season begins on Saturday, March 26 at the Towson Invitational in Towson, Md.
