ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In the final week before the Patriot League Championships, the Loyola University Maryland women’s track team traveled to the United States Naval Academy to participate in the Sweetheart Multi-Mix Madness.

The Greyhounds’ sprint medley relay team of freshman Olivia Airhart, junior Clare Scavone, freshman Erin Gamble and junior Sarah Askine highlighted the day’s events, taking second with a time of 4:23.42. Sophomore Emma Dunleavy, freshman Molly Smith, junior Isabela Ugarte and senior Erica Canas also ran the relay and finished fifth in 4:40.06.

“We had a really strong evening,” head coach Amy Horst said. “Despite tough training conditions and cold weather, we’ve improved in a lot of areas. The team was competitive in each event, which puts them in a good position for the Patriot League Championships.”

Askine posted Loyola’s top individual finish, coming in third in the mile and clocking a final race time of 5:13.61. Canas also ran in the same event, taking ninth in 5:23.33.

Scavone returned from injury to finish just inside the top 10 in the 60m dash. The sprinter took ninth in 8.35.

Loyola had four individuals finish among the top 10 of the 400m dash, led by Dunleavy who came in sixth in 1:00.78. Smith and freshman Devon Terwilliger took seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 1:00.88 and 1:01.70. Senior Brianna Nelson crossed the finish line in 1:02.04, taking 10th overall.

“I’m really pleased with where we are in the 400m,” Horst said. “We have a lot of depth in this particular event, which will help us in the relays at the championships.”

Junior Cordelia McGinn returned to the track after being sidelined for nearly a year and finished sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:19.28.

Freshman Mary Sutton and senior Sara Gilson finished one right after the other in the 3,000m. Sutton took fifth with a time of 10:53.18, while Gilson came in sixth in 10:54.61. Freshman Courtney Wallace rounded out the top 10 by crossing the finish line in 11:09.61.

Freshman Christina Daniels made her debut in the 5,000m, taking sixth in 18:13.46.

A trio of freshmen led by Gamble represented Loyola in the 60m hurdles. Gamble took sixth in 10.16, while Terwilliger (eighth, 10.62) and Anne Lauder (ninth, 10.71) also competed in the event.
