Women's Track and Field Closes Regular Indoor Season At Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland women’s track and field team closed out its indoor regular-season at the Navy Sweetheart Multi-Madness meet on Tuesday night. Kiera Harrison guided the Greyhounds to a fourth-place finish, winning the one-mile event by nearly 11 seconds. 

Navy won four of the meet’s 12 events and took the team victory with 199 points, while the University of Maryland followed in second with 135 team points. Johns Hopkins took third (73), followed by the Greyhounds (52), Lehigh (30) and McDaniel (14).

Harrison was two seconds shy of hitting the ECAC qualifying mark, winning the mile in 5:01.91. The veteran distance runner contributed the most individual points to the team total, 10. 

Underclassmen Jeanine Gill and Crystal Godette led the Greyhounds in the sprints. Gill took third in the 60m with a time of 8.08, while Godette was close behind in 8.13. Hurdlers Jacqueline Porter (9.86) and Eilis McGovern (10.36) ran the 60m hurdles, taking sixth and seventh, respectively.

Charlotte Criqui contributed three points to the team total, taking sixth in the 400m race. The junior crossed the finish line in 1:01.95, just before Porter who took eighth in 1:02.14.

Loyola’s A and B sprint medley squads took third and fourth, respectively, beating out all other Patriot League competitors. Godette, Gill, Claire Scavone and Criqui finished behind Maryland with a time of 4:20.44. The B quartet of Eileen Pastyrnak, Isabela Ugarte, Jessa Laspesa and Lisa Potter took fourth trailing the A team by only one second, 4:21.51. The two squads contributed 11 of the team’s 52 points.

Off the track, junior Maria Hacker contributed the largest point total for the Greyhounds, finishing fourth in the pole vault at 2.55m. Ugarte, Courtney Willeford and Kelly Hilbert dominated the long jump, taking fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively. Sophomore Uchechukwu Emili rounded out the evening’s scorers with a seventh place finish in the weight throw. Emili recorded a distance of 13.16m.

Loyola travels to Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 21, for the team’s first-ever Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships from Bucknell University.
