Feb. 1, 2014
FAIRFAX, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland women’s track and field team completed competition this weekend at the George Mason Patriot Games, highlighted by a program record-breaking performance by sophomore Uchechukwu Emili.
For the second time this season, Emili broke her previous program record in the weight throw posting a result of 13.26m and seventh place overall. The New City, N.Y., native held the previous record, 12.95m, which she posted at the New York City Gotham Cup last month.
In only the second time in her collegiate career junior Charlotte Criqui competed in the 800m event, finishing tenth in 2:25.36. The veteran sprint runner finished ahead of strong competitors from UMBC, William and Mary, James Madison and Virginia State.
“We have put a lot together over the past few weeks,” said Head Coach Amy Horst. “We are making good progress and I’m confident we are going into the right direction headed toward leagues.”
Isabela Ugarte put together a season best performance in the triple jump, despite challenging circumstances throughout the event. The freshman was the only competitor to hit the mark and finish 16th with a final distance of 10.22m.
