Michael Hughes begins his first year as a Volunteer Assistant Coach over the pole vault, high jump, and the multi-events.
Prior to coaching at Loyola, Hughes was a student at the University of Alabama where he competed in the pole vault, heptathlon, and decathlon. Ranked in the All-Time Top 10 in all events for the Crimson Tide, Michael holds the school record in the heptathlon. His personal bests are: PV-5.10m, Hep-5039 points, Dec-7,032 points.
While at UA Hughes helped lead the team to a 4th-place finish in the SEC conference and made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in every season he competed.
Hughes graduated from the University of Alabama in 2011 with both a BS in Marketing and an MBA. He currently works for Newell-Rubbermaid and resides in Mount Washington.
