Julie Culley is in her third season as a coach on the Loyola College cross country and track staff, but in her first season as an assistant after stepping down as head women's track and field coach to pursue a running career.
A distance runner, Culley now trains for her own races while helping out the Greyhounds with her experience.
Culley arrived to the Loyola campus in 2004 and immediately produced three ECAC qualifiers. She later introduced the Loyola indoor track program, which has helped the Greyhounds prepare for the outdoor season. In each of her two years with the track program, the Greyhounds have garnered a fifth-place showing at the outdoor MAAC Championships.
A 2004 graduate of Rutgers University, Culley ran track and cross country for the Scarlet Knights and earned numerous awards and accolades during her career. A three-time Academic All-America selection, Culley was named the Big East Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. A two-time recipient of the Athletic Directors Excellence Award, she was named as the Hedley-Singer Award winner, which is given to the top Rutgers female athlete each year. She also was named the NCAA Woman of the Year for the state of New Jersey during her Rutgers career.
As a cross country runner, Culley was named as an All-America pick during her senior season in addition to earning all-district notice three times. She qualified for the NCAA Championships as a sophomore and was the Metropolitan Champion in 2000 and 2002. She was named the team's MVP three times.
On the track, Culley's accomplishments are just as impressive. A two-time selection as the team's MVP, Culley holds the Rutgers school record in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter events in addition to the distance medley relay.
A member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, Culley was a four-year member of the Rutgers Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
A native of Lebanon, New Jersey, Culley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and political science from Rutgers, is a graduate of the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy, and is a certified personal trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
