Janasek Received MAAC Rookie Of The Year Honors, Johnson Named To First-Team

Edison, N.J. - Freshman Rachel Janasek was named the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year, while sophomore Joy Johnson made the All-MAAC First Team in the No. 5 singles spot the conference office announced on Tuesday. The two also were named to the Second Team, Janasek in the No. 1 singles position along with Fairfield's Dana Postupack. Johnson made the team as part of the No. 2 doubles duo.
Johnson recorded 17 wins in singles action this season and was the only Loyola player to go undefeated in conference play. She managed a 9-0 MAAC record at the No. 5 singles position.
Janasek led the Greyhounds on the singles board this season, posting 17 wins in her rookie year as the No. 1 player. She also recorded a 14-8 doubles record, playing with various partners, but most notably with her No. 1 doubles partner, junior Kerri Swan.
Swan earned the No. 4 position on the 2009 All-MAAC Second Team, finishing the season 8-5 and 7-2 in MAAC play. Freshman Judy Lite made the team at the No. 6 position, and was the third Loyola member to record 17 singles wins this season. She also record a conference record of 7-2.
Four Greyhounds made the second team in the doubles category, starting with sophomore Andie Keyser-Baker and partner Johnson. Juniors Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn completed the list in the No. 3 doubles position. This duo led the Greyhounds with 12 wins overall and six in the MAAC at the three spot.
