Fairfield Ends Women's Tennis Season In MAAC Semifinals, Seven Make All-Academic Team

Queens, N.Y. - Loyola women's tennis team took a 4-3 loss to Fairfield in the Semifinal Round of the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday morning at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The Stags swept the doubles point and added three singles wins to the four point total, while the Greyhounds finished with three singles victories at the first, fourth and fifth positions.
Freshman Rachel Janasek defeated Dana Postupack 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and sophomore Joy Johnson defeated Michaela Cerrone 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Junior Kerri Swan played a three-set match at No. 4 singles, winning the first 6-1, falling in the second 5-7 and finally taking a 10-3 win in a 10-point tiebreaker set for the match victory.
Loyola finished the 2009 season 13-6 overall, 6-3 in the MAAC.
The conference announced the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team over the weekend and Loyola added three men and three women to the list. To be eligible, a student-athlete must complete two semesters and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
