KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s soccer programs were both honored as NSCAA Team Academic Award winners for the 2012-13 academic year, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Thursday.

The Greyhounds were among 182 schools nationally to have both of their men’s and women’s programs recognized, while they joined American, Bucknell and Lafayette as the only Patriot League schools with both teams honored.

This marks the ninth-straight year that the women’s squad has been named an NSCAA Academic Team, while it’s the fifth time both squads have earned the accolade in the same season.

Sporting a 3.42 cumulative GPA, the women’s squad was one of 593 teams in the NCAA to earn the award. The Greyhounds were also one of five Patriot League squads honored and were tied with American as the second-highest GPA among League schools. Bucknell notched a 3.51 average to lead the way.

On the men’s side, the Greyhounds were one of 269 programs nationally to be honored. Bucknell led the six Patriot League men’s honorees with a 3.41 team GPA, while the Greyhounds’ cumulative average of 3.20 checked in second.

To be named an NSCAA Team Academic Award winner, a squad must post a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
