KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s soccer teams were among 717 college soccer teams (220 men, 497 women) to earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards for the 2011-12 academic year, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Loyola was among 148 schools to have both its men’s and women’s programs recognized and one of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams.

The women’s squad was honored for the eighth-straight year, combining for a 3.29 grade-point average, while the men were honored for the fourth time in the last five years with a 3.22 combined GPA.

Loyola’s women captured its 10th MAAC title this year, upsetting top-seeded Marist, 2-1, in the championship game to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history.

The men’s team strung together an eight-game win streak, its longest since 2008, to claim its eighth MAAC regular season title and the top-seed in the conference tournament.

To qualify for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, a team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
