Women's Soccer Grab Two MAAC Awards
Oct. 13, 2003
EDISON, NJ - The Loyola women's soccer team improved to first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with wins over Fairfield, 2-1, and Iona, 2-1 and also nabbed two of the conferences weekly awards. Katie Elliott was awarded the offensive Player of the Week while Carolyn Kennington was named the Rookie of the Week.
Elliott, a senior midfielder, received the honor after scoring back-to-back goals, including the game winner, for the Greyhounds in a 2-1 win over Fairfield. Elliott's goals came in a five minute span. They were her first two of the season but over her career as a Greyhound, Elliott has 14 goals and 16 assists.
Kennington, a freshman forward, continues to lead Loyola with six goals and two assists. She scored the game winner against Iona and assisted on Elliott's game winner against Fairfield this week. This is Kennington's third MAAC honor and second Rookie Award.
The Greyhounds (5-6-1, 3-0-1) will next travel to Pennsylvania for a non-conference match-up with the Quakers on Oct. 15, 2003 before hosting MAAC opponents Manhattan and Saint Peter's on Oct. 17 and 19 respectively.
