BALTIMORE - Friday's women's soccer game between Loyola University Maryland and Cornell University will be the first-ever collegiate soccer match to be broadcast live on Twitter.

The Greyhounds will host the Big Red at 6 p.m. (EDT), and the Patriot League Network broadcast of the match will air live on the social media platform. It will also be streamed on the traditional network platforms, including LoyolaGreyhounds.com.

Twitter and Patriot League broadcast partner Campus Insiders announced in July that more than 300 live collegiate events will be streamed from the Patriot League, Mountain West Conference and West Coast Conference. Friday's contest will be the first Patriot League Network event distributed to Twitter.

"Social media is an integral part of college and professional athletics, and we are proud to be hosting and producing the first-ever college soccer match to air on Twitter," said Jim Paquette, Loyola's assistant vice president and director of athletics "The Patriot League Network and Campus Insiders are tremendous partners, and this is another way we are increasing the reach of Loyola and the Patriot League through broadcasting on over-the-top platforms."

"As we continue to grow the national and international profile of the Patriot League, these new media opportunities allow us to showcase our programs and student-athletes," the League's Executive Director Jennifer Heppel said. "We're very thankful to our partners at Campus Insiders for working with us to help broaden our reach and continue to transform the fan experience."

Additional content, including Patriot League football, basketball and lacrosse will be announced throughout the course of the 2016-17 academic year.

At the time of the July announcement detailing the Campus Insiders-Twitter partnership, Brooks Boyer, CEO of Campus Insiders' parent company Silver Chalice, said: "Streaming live games directly on Twitter is a natural evolution of the fan experience. Unlike traditional broadcast and cable networks, Campus Insiders is set up perfectly to adapt to the evolving media landscape, and we are thrilled to be able to demonstrate this groundbreaking opportunity for our Conference partners, the student athletes we cover and the millions of fans with a passion for college sports."

Anthony Noto, Twitter's chief financial officer, added, "Twitter is the fastest way to see what's happening in sports. Our partnership with Campus Insiders will bring live streaming video of college sports directly to the people who are already talking about it on Twitter, all on a single screen."

Over the past two months, Twitter has announced partnerships to stream live broadcasts of National Football League, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League games, in addition to college sports.

Campus Insiders is also a part of the first college football game to be broadcast on Twitter. Thursday night's opener between Utah State University and Weber State University will air on the platform.
