Loyola-Cornell Women Will Be First College Soccer Game Broadcast On Twitter

The Loyola-Cornell women's soccer match on Friday night will be the first-ever college soccer contest broadcast on Twiter.

BALTIMORE - Friday's women's soccer game between Loyola University Maryland and Cornell University will be the first-ever collegiate soccer match to be broadcast live on Twitter.

The Greyhounds will host the Big Red at 6 p.m. (EDT), and the Patriot League Network broadcast of the match will air live on the social media platform. It will also be streamed on the traditional network platforms, including

Twitter and Patriot League broadcast partner Campus Insiders announced in July that more than 300 live collegiate events will be streamed from the Patriot League, Mountain West Conference and West Coast Conference. Friday's contest will be the first Patriot League Network event distributed to Twitter.

"Social media is an integral part of college and professional athletics, and we are proud to be hosting and producing the first-ever college soccer match to air on Twitter," said Jim Paquette, Loyola's assistant vice president and director of athletics "The Patriot League Network and Campus Insiders are tremendous partners, and this is another way we are increasing the reach of Loyola and the Patriot League through broadcasting on over-the-top platforms."

Additional content, including Patriot League football, basketball and lacrosse will be announced throughout the course of the 2016-17 academic year.

Anthony Noto, Twitter's chief financial officer, added, "Twitter is the fastest way to see what's happening in sports. Our partnership with Campus Insiders will bring live streaming video of college sports directly to the people who are already talking about it on Twitter, all on a single screen."

Over the past two months, Twitter has announced partnerships to stream live broadcasts of National Football League, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League games, in addition to college sports.

Campus Insiders is also a part of the first college football game to be broadcast on Twitter. Thursday night's opener between Utah State University and Weber State University will air on the platform.
