Women's Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head women's soccer coach Naomi Meiburger will begin her first season at the program's helm Friday, Aug. 22, when the Greyhounds travel to face her alma mater, George Mason University.
The Greyhounds announced an 18-game regular-season that includes nine Patriot League games and nine home games at Ridley Athletic Complex. The schedule is subject to change, and fans can visit LoyolaGreyhounds.com in coming weeks for the most up-to-date versions.
"Our non-conference schedule features some strong regional opponents that will do a good job of preparing us for a balanced and deep Patriot League field," Meiburger said. "We are looking forward to getting our preseason training started in a few short weeks."
Following the season-opener at George Mason, Loyola will travel across Baltimore to face UMBC Monday, Aug. 25.
Meiburger and the squad commence the home portion of their schedule against George Washington University Friday, Aug. 29, before hosting DePaul University two days later in the first-ever meeting between the schools It will be the second time within a week the Greyhounds will play a team that advanced to the 2013 NCAA College Cup; both UMBC and DePaul played in the first round of the tournament last year.
The Greyhounds make the short trip to Howard University Friday, Sept. 5, before returning home for a game against Saint Joseph's University Sunday, Sept. 7.
The next weekend, Loyola will host the first day of the Battle of Baltimore tournament, playing Towson Friday, Sept. 12, and hosting a neutral-site matchup between Mount St. Mary's and UMBC. On Sunday afternoon the tournament moves to Towson, as the Greyhounds take on Mount St. Mary's before Towson and UMBC closeout the local battle.
The Greyhounds take the next week to prepare for league action, which the squad opens with a trip to Worcester, Massachusetts, to take on College of the Holy Cross Saturday, Sept. 20.
Loyola hosts back-to-back games against Colgate University (Saturday, Sept. 27) and Bucknell University (Wednesday, Oct. 1), before setting out to play both the United States Military Academy (Saturday, Oct. 4) and the University of Pennsylvania (Monday, Oct. 6) on the road. That weekend, the Greyhounds return to their home turf for a matchup against Lehigh University Saturday, Oct. 11.
The following Saturday, Loyola hosts last year's Patriot League Tournament Champion, Boston University. Following their success after the conference tournament, the Terriers played in the first two rounds of the College Cup.
Loyola makes the trek to the Nation's Capital Wednesday, Oct. 22, for a game against American University before hosting its final home game of the regular-season against the United States Naval Academy Sunday, Oct. 26. A trip to Lafayette College closes out the regular-season Saturday, Nov. 1.
The Patriot League Championships begin with quarterfinal action Tuesday, Nov. 4. The top six teams in the League's regular-season standings will advance to Championships play with the top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals. The regular-season champion will host the semifinal and championship matches Friday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 11, respectively. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup.
