Four Join Women's Soccer Class Of 2018

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head women’s soccer coach Naomi Meiburger announced the addition of four players that will make up the Class of 2018.
Alyssa Bonnesen (Stirling, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional), Lauryn Davidson (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), Zoe Derrickson (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Courtney Simpson (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) will join the soccer team this upcoming season.
“As we work to move the team forward into the fall, I’m excited to have four new players join the squad,” Meiburger said. “These women will help us build a positive culture and bring fresh excitement to the program.”
Alyssa Bonnesen captained the Watchung Hills Regional soccer team as a senior. Currently a member of the PDA Shock, Bonnesen also won a Region 1 Championship playing for the FC Premier Fury.
“Alyssa is a player that will bring depth to our midfield and can also provide some attacking options,” Meiburger said. “She possesses a great attitude and work ethic and I know she will thrive at Loyola.”
Lauryn Davidson hails from Deer Park, N.Y., and was a member of the Deer Park varsity team that placed second in League IV and advanced to the elite eight in back-to-back years from 2011-12. She also spent time playing for the top-ranked Farmingdale United U17 NY East team, the Region 1 Premier League, and the National league for two-consecutive years.
“Lauryn will help raise the level in our defensive unit,” Meiburger said. “I’m looking forward to having her join us and working with her at Loyola."
Zoe Derrickson is a Baltimore, Md., native, and helped the Bryn Mawr School to the 2010 and 2011 IAAM “B” Conference Championships. At the club level, Derrickson won the Maryland State Cup Championship with the Freestate Strikers, after taking the regional title in 2010 and 2011. Previously, she spent time playing with the Delaware and Maryland Olympic Development Teams.
“Zoe is a local product who I’m excited to have join our program,” Meiburger said. “She has a positive attitude and will contribute to the depth of our goalkeeping group.”
Courtney Simpson was a first-team all-conference player for Cherokee High School. The South Jersey goalie received all-state recognition her senior year after earning first-team honors from the Courier Post, Burlington County Times and Philadelphia Inquirer. After missing her freshman and sophomore seasons to a knee injury, Simpson was named one of the top-20 players in the South Jersey region, ultimately earning goalkeeper of the year honors in 2013. At the club level, she guided the FC Bucks to a Pennsylvania State Cup title in 2010, where the team later on became a member of the ECNL in 2012.
“Courtney brings great experience having played at a high level with her club team,” Meirburger said. “She will help us sustain a positive culture and work ethic in our goalkeeping unit.”
