Loyola Associate Head Coach Leads Maryland ODP To National 3rd Place Finish
March 10, 2008
FRISCO, Texas - Loyola Associate Head Women's Soccer Coach Peye Garcia led the State of Maryland Olympic Development Program (ODP) 1992 team to a third place finish at last weekend's 2008 U.S. Youth Soccer ODP National Championships.
The team, which is comprised of girls under the age of 16, traveled to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas after winning the Region I title last July. In the regional tournament, Maryland outscored its opponents, 18-1, and defeated Virginia, 4-0, in the final.
Maryland lost to North Texas, the eventual national runners-up, in the semifinals, but defeated Missouri, 2-0, for third place.
Garcia is in his first year coaching the State of Maryland ODP and has been a Region I Senior Staff ODP coach for the past seven years.
ODP pools players from the state and national levels and serves as the selection process for the U.S. National Teams.
