Nov. 5, 2004
Fairfield, Conn. - Junior Ali Andrzejewski recorded a hat trick in Loyola's 4-0 victory over Iona Friday afternoon in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament at Fairfield University. With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 15-3-0 on the season and move on to face Rider in the championship game on Sunday, November 7 at 12:00. Iona closed out its season at 9-8-3.
The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard just over five minutes into the game as Ali Andrzejewski netted her first goal of the game with help from Ashley Kramer. The Greyhounds then took a 2-0 lead when Andrzejewski found the back of an empty net after Iona goalie Jessica Martin was injured prior to the play. Ticiana DiCarlo took over the goalkeeper duties for the Gaels for the remainder of the game. Loyola went into the half with a 3-0 lead as Tyhira Glenn knocked in a pass from Carolyn Kennington with 10 minutes left in the first stanza. The Greyhounds sealed the victory three minutes into the second half with Andrzejewski registering her third goal of the day as her shot bounced off the right post.
Kate Gilfillan finished the game with two saves for the Greyhounds. Iona's Martin notched one save during her time between the pipes, and DiCarlo recorded one save for the Gaels.
Loyola held a 17-4 advantage in shots while corner kicks were tied at three.
