Women's Soccer Shuts Out Manhattan, 3-0

Riverdale, N.Y. - The Greyhounds earned their second shutout this weekend with a 3-0 win over Manhattan in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Sunday. With the win the Greyhounds improve to 10-3 overall and a resounding 6-0 in MAAC play while the Jaspers fall to 1-12-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
With less then four minutes off the clock in the first half Loyola had a scoring opportunity off a corner kick by sophomore Carolyn Kennington but could not capitalize on it as a Jasper defender blocked the ball and cleared it. With 15:33 remaining on the clock in the half, Greyhound's sophomore Caitlin McCusker scored off a corner kick from Kennington giving Loyola a 1-0 lead.
The Greyhounds did not allow a shot by the Jaspers in the first half.
In the 74th minute, Loyola junior Ali Andrzejewski added an insurance goal as she placed the ball in the lower right corner just past goalkeeper Alicia DeFino's reach giving the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead. The third and final goal of the game came with under nine minutes left to play as Kennington received a pass from teammate Naomi Daniels 12 yards out and shoot it to the lower left corner.
Loyola's goalkeeper Kate Gilfillan earned two saved for the day while DeFino earned 11 saves for Manhattan.
The Greyhounds held a 27-2 advantage in shots as well as a 8-2 lead in corner kicks.
Loyola takes a break from conference action early this week by facing local opponent, American at home on Wed., Oct. 20 at 2:00.
