Women's Soccer Defeats Manhattan, 1-0
Oct. 17, 2003
BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Carolyn Kennington scored her seventh goal of the season in the 84th minute of play for Loyola's 1-0 win over Manhattan Friday afternoon at Curley Field. The Greyhounds improved to 6-7-1 overall and undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at 4-0-1. The Lady Jaspers fell to 3-10 overall and took their first MAAC loss for a 3-1 record.
Kennington's goal came late in the second half at 83:42. Off a quick past from fellow freshman Courtney Arikian, dead-center in front of goal, Kennington just tapped the ball past Manhattan keeper Jeanne Marie Gilbert for the easy score.
Loyola outshot Manhattan, 15-2 overall and the Greyhound defense didn't allow the Lady Jaspers a singe attempt in the first period of play. Sophomore Kate Gilfillan made one save in her second start this week while Gilbert stopped six Loyola attempts for Manhattan.
The Greyhounds will return to Curley Field on Sunday, Oct. 19 for another MAAC contest, this time hosting Saint Peter's at 1:00.
