Oct. 15, 2003
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Despite tying a tight game in the first half, Loyola was unable to come up with a win over the University of Pennsylvania, 3-2, in a non conference contest Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds are now 5-7-1 on the season while the Quakers stay undefeated at home and 6-2-3 overall.
Penn scored the first goal of the game at the 14:35 mark when junior Lydia Bojcun played the ball forward to Cross who bent a shot just inside the far post.
The Quakers then got the opportunity to make the game, 2-0, in the 22nd minute when Cross was taken down in the box causing a penalty kick. Sophomore Robin Watson converted the free kick on a shot over the shoulder of Loyola goalkeeper Kate Gilfillan.
Despite being out shot, 6-2, in the first half, Loyola capitalized on its both of its attacks, tying the score at two going into halftime. The Greyhounds' first goal came when Naomi Daniels fired a shot into the crossbar that dropped into the goal at the 25:05 mark. Loyola would score the equalizer less than ten minutes later, when Ashley Kramer sent a penalty kick past senior goalkeeper Vanessa Scotto. It was the first goal of the season for the both Kramer and Daniels.
Penn earned the game winner when Cross scored her second goal of the game in the 60th minute off a pass set up by junior Rachelle Snyder and sophomore Jenna Linden.
Gilfillan finished the game with three saves while Penn outshot Loyola, 13-3.
The Greyhounds will host two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents this weekend with Manhattan on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saint Peter's on Sunday, Oct. 19. Loyola holds the top spot in the MAAC at 3-0-1.
