Women's Soccer Tops Fairfield, 4-1

Baltimore, Md. - The Greyhounds took an early lead en route to a 4-1 final over Fairfield in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Alunmae Field. Loyola improves to 8-3-0 overall and the lone undefeated team in the conference at 4-0. The Stags fall to 3-10-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the conference.
Carolyn Kennington gave the Greyhounds an early start at 10:31 when Ali Andrzejewski fed the ball into the box to her for the 1-0 score. Just over three minutes later Andrzejewski made it 2-0 off passes from Naomi Daniels and Ellen Sroka. Andrzejewski kept things rolling for the `Hound with her second goal in the 24th minute with a beautiful kick from 25-feet out for a 3-0 score. Fairfield wasn't giving up however, tallying their lone goal in the 29th minute when Jann Beitenwisher passed the ball from the right side of the goal to the left where teammate Amanda Vargo was waiting for it. Vargo beat Loyola keeper Kate Gilfillan for the 3-1 halftime score.
Gilfillan finished with six saves while Maron tallied seven.
The Greyhounds held an advantage in shots with a 22-9 lead as well as corner kicks, 3-0.
Loyola is back in action on Friday, Oct. 15 when they visit Saint Peter's.
