Women's Soccer Defeats Iona, 1-0
Oct. 8, 2004
Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Tyhira Glenn scored her second goal of the season in the 35th minute of play to lead the Greyhounds to a 1-0 victory over Iona Friday afternoon on Alumnae Field. Loyola improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while the Gaels fall to 6-6-1 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC.
"Bottom line, we got the result today," head coach Joe Mallia said. "Our kids worked hard against a well organized, hard working Iona team but we did what we had to do to get the win."
Glenn's goal at 34:16 came when Leigh Mastrini headed the ball to Carolyn Kennington. Kennington got it to Glenn who was at the far right goal line. Glenn dribbled in and faked Iona's goalie Jessica Martin and tapped the ball into the left corner of the goal.
Loyola held an advantage in shots at 20-8 and corner kicks at 4-1.
Iona did have several chances at goals but failed to capitalize on them.
Loyola goalkeeper Kate Gilfillan made one save in the shutout while Martin stopped six Greyhounds attempts.
The Greyhounds face MAAC-opponent Fairfield at Alumnae Field on Sunday, Oct. 10th at 1:00.
