RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore Julia Hajjar scored in the 28th minute to lead the Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Manhattan on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

Senior Kelsey Donohue ran about 50 yards up the left side, beating opponents, before serving the ball into the middle for Hajjar to finish into the bottom left corner for the game’s lone goal.

“We created a lot of opportunities today and defensively, we had a good game,” head coach Katherine Vettori said. “We did a good job of controlling the game and in the last 10 minutes, we played with a lot of composure, which is a great step forward for us.”

The Greyhounds had an opportunity to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime when senior Gigi Mangione’s shot was blocked in the 43rd minute, setting up a corner kick. Senior Lauren Norcia played the corner into the box, but senior Nichole Schiro’s header went just high of the cross bar.

Schiro also had an opportunity for a second Greyhound goal in the 53rd minute when she created a breakaway, but her shot hit off the post.

Defensively, Loyola held Manhattan to just two shots in the second half, both of with senior goalkeeper Didi Haracic saved to post her third shutout of the year - second in MAAC play – and run her consecutive shutout minutes to 194 minutes and 49 seconds.

For the game, Loyola outshot the Jaspers, 27-6, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Haracic finished the day with five saves.

Loyola will remain on the road for its third-straight game next weekend as it heads to Rider for a 1 p.m., match-up with the Broncs on Saturday.
