LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team dropped a Patriot League contest to Bucknell University, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.

Bucknell (5-6-0, 2-1 Patriot League) took an early 2-0 lead before Rosy Hayes was able to find the back of the net for Loyola (1-8-2, 0-3) in the 61st minute.

“We created more chances in the second half,” said Head Coach Katherine Remy Vettori. “We were able to defend the ball better, and got more creative with our opportunities.”

In the 16th minute Evelyn Nicinski made a long pass from midfield through the defense and into the feet of Cassie Denger. Denger went one-on-one with senior goalkeeper Didi Haracic for the Bison’s first goal.

Bucknell scored its second goal when Corey Tipton took a rebound from inside the six-yard line during the 42nd minute. Brigit Falcon took a shot, but Haracic was there for the save when the ball bounced back into action and Tipton was able to get a foot on it.

Following the half, Hayes scored her first goal of the season and put the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with a quick short pass from senior Chantal Celestin. The midfield pass found Hayes, who blasted a shot from 20 yards out just above the hands of Bison’s goalkeeper Jessie Ashworth.

Moments later, the Greyhounds had an opportunity to tie the score, as sophomore Charlotte Miller took a corner kick from the near side. The opportunity made contact with Nicole Wahlig, but the header went just above the cross bar.

Haracic played all 90 minutes in goal for Loyola, making eight saves.

The Bison outshot the Greyhounds 20-11, while both teams recorded two corner kicks.

Loyola will return to Ridley Athletic Complex to take on the Black Knights of Army, on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
